Softmaxxing
Softmaxxing: the habit side of looksmaxxing
Short answer
Softmaxxing means improving your looks with low-risk habits: sleep, skincare, body fat and training, posture, grooming, clothes and confidence. Hardmaxxing is the invasive side: surgery, injectables, drugs or practices like bone smashing. Softmaxxing is cheap, reversible and starts to show within weeks; hardmaxxing is expensive and can carry serious risks.
What softmaxxing means
In looksmaxxing slang, “soft” means anything that doesn't cut, inject or break something. It's the part of looksmaxxing that depends on you: how you sleep, eat, train, stand, dress and look after your skin and hair.
It's less spectacular than a surgery before-and-after, but it's where most of the visible difference between “tired and scruffy” and “put-together” lives. And unlike hardmaxxing, nothing you do is permanent: if a haircut or a routine doesn't suit you, you change it.
Softmaxxing vs hardmaxxing
Not every procedure is reckless: some people have one with a qualified surgeon after a proper assessment. The problem is the forum version: DIY, rushed, and driven by a rating someone gave a photo.
| Softmaxxing | Hardmaxxing | |
|---|---|---|
| Examples | Sleep, skincare, training, posture, haircut, beard, clothes | Jaw implants, eyelid or nose surgery, fillers, steroids, bone smashing |
| Cost | Close to free | Hundreds to thousands |
| Risk | Low | Moderate to high |
| Reversible | Yes | Often not |
| Who's in charge | You | Ideally a qualified doctor; on forums, often nobody |
Softmaxxing checklist, step by step
- Fix your sleep first
Same bedtime and wake-up time, 7–9 hours, and 30–60 minutes without screens before bed. It shows on your face before anything else does.
- Start a minimal skin routine
Morning: gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen SPF 30+. Night: cleanse and moisturize. Step by step.
- Get a haircut that suits you
Ask the barber what works with your face shape and hair type, and book the next cut before you leave.
- Tidy up your grooming
Lined-up beard or a clean shave, unibrow and stray hairs, nose hair, short clean nails. Fragrance: two sprays.
- Train and walk
Strength training 2–4 times a week and 6,000–10,000 steps a day. Lower body fat is what defines your face the most.
- Fix your posture
Chin tucked, shoulders back, screen at eye level, and a few posture checks a day. Exercises.
- Edit your wardrobe
Keep clothes that fit and go together; donate what you never wear. Lay out tomorrow's outfit the night before.
- Train your confidence
Hold eye contact, talk to someone new every week and make plans. It's the part a mirror never shows.
What softmaxxing includes, area by area
Deeper dives: skincare routine, posture exercises, jawline and the daily routine.
| Area | The habit | When you notice it |
|---|---|---|
| Sleep | Fixed schedule, 7–9 hours | Days: less puffiness and dark circles |
| Skin | Cleanse, moisturize, SPF 30+ every morning | Weeks |
| Grooming | Beard line, brows, nose hair, nails | Same day |
| Hair | A cut that suits your face, kept up every 3–5 weeks | Same day |
| Posture | Chin tucked, shoulders back, screen at eye level | Instantly in photos; weeks to make it automatic |
| Physique | Strength training 2–4×/week, 6,000–10,000 steps | Months |
| Style | Clothes that fit and go together | Same day |
| Water | Water instead of soda | Energy within days |
| Confidence | Eye contact, talking to new people | Weeks of practice |
Why hardmaxxing is risky
- Surgery is surgery: infection, nerve damage, asymmetry and revision operations are real possibilities, and results can't simply be undone.
- DIY methods: bone smashing, thumb pulling or chewing hard gum for hours have no evidence behind them and can injure you.
- Steroids and other drugs without medical supervision bring hormonal side effects that can outlast the cycle.
- Crash diets and long fasts to “show bone structure” cost energy, mood and sometimes hair, which is the opposite of a glow up.
- Decisions made from a score: a forum or an app rating your face isn't a good reason to change it permanently.
If you're seriously considering a procedure, talk to a qualified doctor, not a forum. And if a perceived flaw takes up a lot of your day, that's worth raising with a professional too.
Common softmaxxing mistakes
- Starting fifteen things at once and quitting by day four. Three habits you keep beat fifteen you drop.
- Buying products instead of building routines: a cleanser, a moisturizer and sunscreen are enough to start.
- Skipping sunscreen because it's cloudy.
- Ignoring sleep, the cheapest upgrade on the list.
- Expecting a new face: softmaxxing makes you look rested, fit and put-together, not like somebody else.
Frequently asked questions
What is softmaxxing?
The habit-based side of looksmaxxing: sleep, skincare, training, posture, grooming, style and confidence, with no surgery or extreme methods.
What's the difference between softmaxxing and looksmaxxing?
Looksmaxxing is the whole idea of improving your looks; softmaxxing is the low-risk part of it. The other part is hardmaxxing: surgery, drugs and invasive methods.
How long does softmaxxing take to show?
Grooming, haircut and clothes show the same day; sleep within days; skin in weeks; physique in months. No one can promise a precise timeline.
Is mewing softmaxxing?
Forums usually file it under softmaxxing because it's non-invasive, but there's no solid evidence it changes bone in adults. More on mewing.
Can you softmax with no money?
Mostly, yes: sleep, walking, bodyweight training, posture, water and confidence are free. A basic cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen are the only real costs.
